Our Story

PEBL's beginning, rituals, and other stories.

A note from Sue, PEBL calm founder

Our home is loud.

Two mums. Two kids. Two dogs. Big feelings. Big messes.

And most of all - big love.

For most of my life I chased rest. Earned it. Scheduled it. Waited for the quiet moment that never quite arrived.

Then the kids came.

And they slowed everything down.

Not because life got quieter. It got considerably louder.

But because they showed me something I hadn't noticed before.

When a small person insists on helping, everything takes longer.

Folding laundry becomes a negotiation. A walk around the block becomes an expedition. Cooking takes longer. And the mess …

For a long time, I saw this as an obstacle.

Then one day I wondered, what if this is the point?

What if slowing down isn't something that happens to us? What if it's something we return to?

Children are extraordinary at noticing things. At knowing intuitively what they need. At stopping to watch a bee land on a flower, or holding a dandelion up to the light before taking one long, slow breath and letting it go.

They haven't forgotten how to pause. We have.

PEBL began there.

In that observation. In that ordinary moment.

I created PEBL for kids like mine - for every child who needs a gentle reminder that calm is always available to them.

But somewhere in the creating, I realised something. The need doesn't belong to childhood. It belongs to anyone who has ever held their breath without noticing.

Anyone who has been moving so quickly that stillness feels unfamiliar.

Anyone who has forgotten, just for a moment, that they are allowed to pause.

That's all of us, at some point.

PEBL is not here to fix anything.

We don't believe anything is broken. We simply believe that calm is something we return to - one breath, one ritual, one quiet moment at a time.

And if a product, a story or a simple breathing practice can be that gentle invitation, then that is enough.

That is everything.

Wishing you calm,

Sue

Rituals

Calm isn't something we create. It is something we return to.

In a world that moves quickly, the small moments matter most.

A breath before bed.

A familiar routine.

A moment to simply pause.

PEBL Calm rituals are gentle invitations back to yourself - one breath. one moment. one day at a time.

Breathe. Ground. Dream.

Breath brings us into the moment.

Grounding keeps us there.

Dreaming allows us to imagine what comes next.

Together, these simple practices form the foundation of every PEBL ritual.

Breathe

Before anything else, there is breath. It was always there — you simply return your attention to it. Breathing with intention slows the body, steadies the mind, and creates a moment of genuine arrival. Intentional breathing is powerful, its positive effects undeniable, yet so often forgotten.

Breathing helps us soften, slow down and reconnect with ourselves.

A simple breathing ritual

Inhale for a few seconds, then add another quick top up breath, before exhaling slowly.

The double breath or 'physiological sigh' rapidly slows the heart rate and signals safety to the brain, producing a rapid calming effect

Ground

Grounding keeps you present. It is the practice of feeling where you are — in your body, in the room, in this moment. Grounding doesn't ask you to empty your mind. It simply asks you to notice what is real and near. When thoughts race ahead, grounding brings us back.

Grounding reminds us that calm is not somewhere else. It is within. We just need to return to the present moment.

A simple grounding ritual

Breathe in for 4 seconds,

hold for 2, exhale for 4.

Repeat as needed, visualising roots growing from your feet into the earth, grounding you in the moment and returning you to calm.

Dream

Rest is not the absence of doing. It is where the mind processes, integrates, and prepares. To dream, truly, is to trust that stillness is productive, that sleep is sacred, and that tomorrow is already being shaped by how well you rest tonight.

Dream reminds us that rest is not something we earn. It is restoring and preparing us for what's next.

A simple dream ritual

Breathe in for 4 seconds,

followed by a slow exhale for 7.

Rooted in pranayama, an ancient breath control practice, this ritual slows the heart rate, encourages a state of calm, and lets you gently drift into rest.

Eclipse

Eclipse is our deeper reset ritual, for moments when you need a little more space to pause, come back to yourself, and find your inner calm. It brings together breath, grounding and stillness to help settle the senses, slow things down, and gently return to calm.

Eclipse reminds us that even when things feel overwhelming, we can pause, reset, and begin again.

A simple eclipse ritual

Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4,

Exhale for 4, hold for 4. Repeat.

The simplicity and structure of 'box breathing' is an ideal calming ritual when a deeper reset is needed, gently guiding you to a place of calm.

From here.

What if we acted from calm?

Most of us are moving through our days from a state of low-grade urgency. Not crisis, necessarily. Just the background hum of too much, too fast, not quite enough space to think.

And from that state, we make decisions. We respond to our children, our colleagues, the people we love most. We create, we plan, we react.

It's worth asking: what would be different if we didn't?

Not if we checked out. Not if we retreated from life into some permanent state of stillness. But if we simply learned to return - briefly, reliably — to a place of calm before we moved forward. A breath. A moment of ground. A night of real rest.

Calm, in this sense, isn't the destination. It's the ground everything else grows from.

Imagine the email written from that place instead of this one. The conversation with a tired child approached with patience rather than depletion. The decision made with clarity rather than anxiety. The creative work that emerges from fullness rather than pressure.

None of this requires perfection or hours of practice. It requires a pause. Small, intentional, repeated.

That's what PEBL is built around - not the pursuit of calm as an end in itself, but as a return. A place to come back to, so that
everything you go out and do carries something steadier with it.

The world that becomes possible from there is worth imagining.

A place to pause

PEBL isn't here to fix anything.

We don't believe anything is broken.

We simply believe that calm is something we return to —

one breath,

one ritual,

one quiet moment at a time.

Breathe. Ground. Dream. Eclipse.

Four rituals. One intention. A return to calm.
